Here i am at the back end of the enormous Saturn V rocket. They say that being in this when its fully loaded with fuel, is equivalent to sitting on a nuclear bomb. So if something goes wrong, you have no hope of surviving. I was amazed that the guidance of the thrusters was a mechanical system, with mechanical gyroscopes ensuring the rockets continue to go up, rather than some other direction. Before the rocket takes off, the ground crew have to calibrate the gyroscopes, hopefully they dont make a mistake. |
